Oldest Defender : Terence Newman Extends At The Vikings

Even at 39, Terence Newman is not a bit tired. The cornerback stays true to the Vikings and enters his meanwhile 16th professional season.
When the season kicks off in September, Terence Newman will be 40 – and the NFL’s oldest defensive player.

Newman already drafted in 2003
It’s almost half an eternity ago that the Kansas State College player was selected as the fifth pick from the Dallas Cowboys at the 2003 Draft.
At that time he met for the first time on today’s Viking coach Mike Zimmer, who was at that time the defensive coordinator of the Cowboys. It was the beginning of a long coach-player relationship. For nine of his previous 15 professional years Newman played under room – only until 2006 in Dallas, then two years in Cincinnati and since 2015 in Minnesota.

Newman has already received 42 interceptions
The coach trusted the player, and thanked him for his achievement. In his career, Terence Newman brought on 42 interceptions. This is the second highest score among active players and the tenth best among active players with 221 bets.

In each season, the two-time Pro Bowler (2007 and 2009) managed at least one interception. His other career data: 876 tackles (including 745 solo), 172 defended passes and two sacks.
Newman as a role model
In the Minnesota Vikings he leads the defensive back to Xavier Rhodes, Trae Waynes, Harrison Smith, Mackensie Alexander and the current first-round pick Mike Hughes. Not only Mackensie Alexander feels safe on the side of the 1.78 meter tall and 90 kilogram Newman.

“Terence is someone who always stands behind me, pushing me and talking about everything that happens,” says Alexander. “He always seems to know what’s coming, how does he do it, but that’s Terence, Terence is Terence.”
