The Los Angeles Rams want to tie long-term defensive lineman Aaron Donald. In order to get the money together, among other things, the contract of the Punters was redesigned.
Los Angeles / Munich – Rams CEO Les Snead announced as a guest in the MMQB podcast that defensive tackle Aaron Donald is soon to become the highest-paid defense player in the NFL.
When asked about Ndamukong Suh’s new signing, Snead said, “He’s 31 years old and was already the highest-paid defender in the league, so it’s just important for him to win, and he knows it’s good for him as well to play the man on the verge of becoming the highest-paid NFL defense player. ” That meant, of course, Donald, the Defensive Player of the Year 2017.
New deal for “Johnny Kickball”
The Rams have the lowest cap-space of any NFL team. However, all registers are pulled to free up funds. Therefore, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com, the Rams have even restructured the contract of Punter Johnny Hekker. The punter would actually earn $ 1.21 million in 2018 base salary.
However, the base salary was converted into a signing bonus, so the Rams could save $ 968,000 cap-space this year and invest that money in Donald. Also for the next four years it should have been at the Punter contract transformations.
Currently the highest paid defender in the league is Von Miller. The linebacker of the Denver Broncos collects an average annual salary of $ 19.01 million.
